Learn to Swim:
Parent and Child class: Mums and Bubs -10 per class
A half hour class which consists of games, songs, submersions, floating and gross motor skills. This class will have babies of varying ages in it, they will all be beginnersand no younger than 6 months of age. 30 min class
By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:

Running legs

Splashing hands
-
Happy to submerge 6 or more times throughout a lesson
-
Relaxed and happy to be floating on their back with assistance
-
Falling/jumping from the ledge/side of pool, submerging and return to the wall with assistance
-
Happy to go with the Instructor for short periods of time continually throughout the lesson
-
Introduction ro blowing bubbles
-
Introduction to climbing in and out of the pool
-
Use a barbell or noodle with limited assistance
-
Participate in songs and games
Parent and Child: Little floaters - 8 per class
30 min class
By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:

Good coordination of arm and leg movements
-
Jump in from the side of the pool turn around and swim to the side assisted
-
Come to the surface for air when required
-
Be happy to swim with the teacher at any time
-
Be able to swim independently form the parent with the assistance of floaties
-
Float on their back with minimal assistance for 10 seconds
-
Happily swim in a group situation
-
Introduction to Monkey arms

Climb out of the pool without assistance

Introduction to pushing off the wall and rolling to back
TADPOLES - 4 PER CLASS
30 min class – White cap
By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:
-
Have the correct body position (laying on stomach with the legs up)
-
Swim confidently with 2 arms while on a noodle for an entire lesson
-
Swim 5 meters to a point of safety unassisted
-
Float on their back for 20 seconds with minimal assistance by floats or teacher
-
Backstroke kick with the assistance of the instructor
-
Blow bubbles with the eyes in the water for 5 seconds
-
Jump into the pool turn around, swim to side, hold onto he edge of the pool without assistance
-
Monkey arms around pool for 12.5 meters
-
Climb in and out unassisted
-
Use barbell or noodle independently
-
Push off wall and roll to back unassisted.
Tadpoles -White Cap
Most children need to develop water confidence in these classes. Aim of this level is confidence skills and evidence of water familiarization. Children will be able to push and glide, float on their back and reach and pull independently, for a short distance.
AIM: To move through the water, with dog paddle action for 12.5 m
To be able to back scull for short distance
Put their face in the water and blow bubbles
Push and glide from the step for a short distance
FROGS - 4 PER CLASS
30 min class – Green cap
By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:
-
Swim with reaching and pulling arms for the entire lesson with out floats
-
Jump into the pool swim to the side and climb out unassisted
-
Float for 20 seconds unassisted
-
BK kick for 8 meters with the aid of a kick board good technique
-
Learning the basics of BK with assistance
-
FS kick and blow bubbles with the assistance of either the teacher or flotation aids with good technique and repeated bubbling action
-
Able to complete a double knee dive unassisted
-
Introduction to cap and goggles
Frogs – Green cap
These children are comfortable in the water. They can push and glide, dog paddle with confidence and flotation aids are being diminished. The child can back float and scull, in a streamline position.
AIM: Dog paddle 25 m
Back scull 12.5 m
Put their face in the water, and blow bubbles with confidence
Push and glide off the step for approximately 3 m
Attempt a dive off the wall, turn and dog paddle back to catch the wall.
Gold Fish: 4 PER CLASS

By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:

These children are comfortable in the water, they are able to float and dog paddle independently. The children will be taught freestyle arms, with one-sided breathing (Two Arm Freestyle), and backstroke kick.
Children over the age 7 years i.e. Taller children, should go straight to being taught Two Arm Freestyle (not dog paddle)
PRE REQUISITE: Confidently reach and pull for 12.5 m
Confidently Back Scull 12.5 m
AIM: Attempt Backstroke, concentrating more on kick
Bubble and breathe 12.5 m with two arm stroking
Push and glide from step for 3 m
Attempt to dive off the wall, with proper diving action
Turn and return to wall,
And be able to climb out of pool, unassisted
CLOWN FISH - 4 PER CLASS
30 min class – Orange Cap
By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:

25 meters BK with good technique unassisted

Clown Fish – Orange caps
The basic freestyle stroke is taught. These children have good co-ordination of arms and legs. Children are taught two stroke breathing (Two Arm Freestyle), and backstroke with straight arms.
PRE REQUISITE: Confidently Dog Paddle 25 m
Confidently Back Scull 25 m
Children standing with their shoulders out of the water (i.e. Tall children, of any age)
should not attempt to dive off the side of the pool. These children should be taught push and glide submersions from the step only.
AIM: Freestyle Bubble and breathe, with Two Arm stroking, for 25m
Backstroke for 25 m with straight arm stroking action.
Push and glide for 3 m
Dive off the wall, two m under water, turn and return to wall,
And be able to climb out unassisted
Marlins - 4 PER CLASS
30 min class - Purple Cap
By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:

50 meters BK with correct technique

Beginning of bilateral breathing is taught (Three Arm Freestyle). Backstroke legs and arms should become more coordinated. Develop confidence in all aspects of Freestyle swimming and Backstroke.
PRE REQUISITE: Two Arm Freestyle for 50 m
Backstroke arms for 50 m
Backstroke Kick, in horizontal position
Confidence in diving from the wall
AIM: Strengthening kick to improve propulsion
Co ordination of arms and legs, with breath control
Bubble and breath with three arm stroking action for 12.5 m
Backstroke arms and legs, in streamline body position, for 25 m
Dive off the wall, 3 m submersions, surface and return to the wall
Reinforce safety in and around the pool
Sharks - 6 PER CLASS
30 min class – Grey Cap
By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:

Sharks – Grey Cap
These children are becoming confident with their bilateral breathing. The freestyle stroke is strengthened, and the teacher works on increasing stamina, over 25 m. Backstroke arms and legs should be coordinated and confident over 25 m. Technique and body position are continually corrected.
PRE REQUISITE: 25 m two arm Freestyle
25 m three arm freestyle, with correct breathing pattern
25 m Backstroke with fluid stroking
Confidence in all aspects of Freestyle and Backstroke
AIM: Three arm freestyle, with proper breathing for 100 m
Backstroke for 100m
Fluent techniques in both strokes
Distances are increased to improve stamina
Dive off the wall with proper technique; submerge for 3 – 5 m
Surface and return to the wall, with safe and exit from the pool
Grommets - 10 PER CLASS
30 min class – Red Caps
By the end of this level the child should be able to, and receive a certificate for the following:

Refinement of FS technique

200 meters FS (continuous lap swimming)

Grommets - Red Caps
These are children that are capable of swimming 25 meters of freestyle, backstroke is fluent and strong. The lesson has elements of endurance work, stroke correction, and strengthens them for the requirements for squad swimming. The basic elements of Butterfly and Breaststroke and introduced.
AIM: Freestyle 200 meters with correct breathing, head roll, and length of stroke
Freestyle kicks to be fast and short
Backstroke 200 meters with correct breathing patterns, head position and
body roll, and arm rotation.
Butterfly – can kick and with legs co-coordinated, basic stroke technique,
and breathe control, with fins.
Breaststroke – basic stroke technique; timing and coordination of arms,
Legs and breathing
Dives from the side of the pool, streamline entry, and breath control.
